Environment Protection

Over 80% of the towns and suburbs in Uganda have been  besieged by tones of waste generated materials as a result of the activities of various businesses within these areas. The garbage that has proved a challenge to both local and town authorities to manage adequately, has contributed to healthy hazards like; flooding of near by water streams and polluting wetlands that drain the towns.

According to a comprehensive study, statistics on solid waste disposal in the central Districts, vegetable matter ranks higher (83%), followed by tree cuttings (75%) and street debris (5.5%). On top of this, 80% of the national population use wood fuel, its products and bi-products as a dependent source of energy for cooking despite being expensive, leading to massive deforestation and related environmental consequences the country is facing in this millennium.

MAFA ‘s environmental projects aim at reducing excessive cutting down of trees for charcoal and garbage accumulation through sensitization on dangers of destruction of the nature and encouraging environmentally friendly practices like agroforestry, organic/sustainable agriculture and energy savings technologies like energy savings stoves. These practices reduce carbon emissions and moderate climate to support agriculture.
